NAME: Mitsuri Kanroji
CANON: Demon Slayer (Kimetsu no Yaiba)
CANON REFERENCE: wiki
CANON POINT: Post chapter 200.
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: 19
APPEARANCE:
Mitsuri is a young woman who definitely stands out. She's 167cm/5'6" tall, about 123 lbs, and is described as 'cute' by many of her peers. Most notably, she has thick pink hair which fades to green and she usually keeps it sectioned into three long braids (two in the front, like pigtails, and one down her back). The coloration is actually something which naturally occurred as the result of eating too many sakura mochi. She has very round, large green eyes, and a single beauty mark directly under each one.
Mitsuri is also noted to be quite curvy: with a small waist, large bust and wide hips (an "easily deliverable type of butt", as put by Tengen). Her uniform is modified show this and exposes a lot more skin than she was initially comfortable with, as it wasn't Mitsuri's desire to wear it that way. In order to cope with this she wears thigh-high green socks and the standard white haori.
CONTRACT PAYMENT: Being reborn into a life where she and Iguro can be happily together.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
What does family mean to you and who do you consider a part of your family?
Honestly, Mitsuri is the only one among the Hashira who has a normal family: she has two parents who (unlike typical anime fashion) are still very much alive along with 5 unnamed siblings. It's also stated that she gets along with all of those siblings, so it can be understood that her family life is quite content. However, 'family' to her does not mean just having a blood tie. Mitsuri has found a new home with the Hashira and the demon slayer corps, and views some of its members as being like family to her too. I think that for Mitsuri, her biological family will always have a special place in her heart (a special recognition of being the ones who raised her and who are her kin), but I also think that she can extend her care and consideration to others in a familial fashion as well. An example of this is her considering the Flame Hashira as being like an older brother to her or when she steps into an 'older sister/caretaker' role with characters like Nezuko, singing to and playing with her. I think that this mindset is partially due to the circumstances of the other slayers, as many of them have lost families or needed to make a family as time went on (like those at the Butterfly Mansion), but also partially due to Mitsuri's caring and accepting nature.
Simply put, for Mitsuri, I think family are simply those who you feel at home with: who you can laugh with, and easily be yourself around -- no matter how weird or undesirable your true self may be. Biology is one thing, but it's more about acceptance than anything else.
An enemy of your faction has asked for a meeting, proposing a truce of sorts to deal with a greater threat. On one hand, there is indeed a threat at hand, but on the other, this person double-crossing you is just as likely an outcome. Do you agree to the meeting? Do you trust them?
Mitsuri is typically one of the first people to hear someone out, especially if they have good intentions. However, she wouldn't act on something so big without the consent of her higher-ups, and would absolutely inform them first before doing anything. As it is, Mitsuri doesn't see herself as the smartest person around. She knows that she isn't exactly the most tactful or the most strategic, and wouldn't trust herself with this kind of a choice alone. She constantly goes to other castmates for their opinions, and is largely insecure in acting under these kinds of circumstances.
She is also incredibly loyal to her boss, and reminds the other Hashira to seek approval of Oyakata-sama (Kagaya) before making a decision on Nezuko, stating that what they do is up to his choice. So even if she were to trust the enemy party somewhat, she would never feel right with herself just agreeing to their meeting outright and would need the reassurance of her leader.
How do you define "success"? What is something you're ambitious about?
In many ways "success" is very black and white in her line of work. As a Hashira, Mitsuri has a lot of people depending on her in extreme circumstances where it isn't a matter of "can I do this?" but "I have to do this". It's either she protected innocent lives, or she didn't. She defeated the demon, or she didn't. Even when at her limit, Mitsuri was entirely ready to sacrifice herself if it meant buying her teammates a little more time -- and, in the end, did exactly that. For her it's very much about whether or not she has completed her goal of protecting those around her.
However, when it comes to more simple things like daily tasks or learning new skills, she understands that it's all a process which takes time and can be quite gentle with people who are beginning to learn a new skill. That doesn't stop her from being let down if she isn't good at something, though, but putting all of her effort towards her task is definitely what's most important.
That said, as simple as it is: Mitsuri is ambitious about being useful to others, as well as being as kind. Aside from hobbies, she really spends most of her time socializing with those around her, bringing a sense of normalcy to the harsh reality of demon slaying and trying to do her best to help out. It isn't necessarily something she does consciously, as its in her nature to be cheerful and to talk a lot, but she loves to dote on others and to provide emotional support. She would happily follow through with a task given to her by a beloved teammate as a result, and wouldn't think twice about going out of her way for others.
What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?
Mitsuri has a variety of hobbies she enjoys on the side, with the spare time she's allowed off-duty: she enjoys bee keeping for honey, playing games like menko, cooking, exchanging letters with Iguro (and I would assume she exchanges letters with others regularly, like her family, or occasionally with Shinobu etc). I would also like to add that "socialization" could perhaps be seen as a hobby here, as she loves to chat with pretty much everyone, everywhere, including with the Kakushi. It's also mentioned that she and Iguro will occasionally go try new restaurants together, too.
Following that: her main vice is definitely related to food, and that is where she spends most of her money. She really has no choice but to eat huge amounts of food due to her body composition, and when Mitsuri was still a low-level Slayer she would even beg Rengoku for snack breaks in the middle of training. So she's definitely something of a glutton.
Her duties are above everything else to her since they're literally life and death, though. If she doesn't act, many people can be hurt and the difference between saving someone and watching them die can really be down to seconds. The fact that her monstrous strength is finally useful and accepted by people in the Corps is a total bonus.
POWERS & ABILITIES:
Swordsmanship: Love Breathing !
Mitsuri uses a unique breathing/swordsmanship style called Love Breathing, which requires a lot of stamina, agility, and flexibility to fight. It's a style that's unique to her as it was created based off of her individual body composition. Love Breathing looks a lot like rhythmic gymnastics, where the sword she uses is very long and whip-like. She can cut through enemies by twisting and turning her whole body, and dodges attacks by being very acrobatic.
Love Breathing techniques, as explained by the wiki:
♥ First Form: Shivers of First Love - The user dashes forward with a series of extended whip slashes that winds around and through the target.
♥ Second Form: Love Pangs - The user unleashes multiple powerful whip slashes around themselves.
♥ Third Form: Catlove Shower - The user leaps and unleashes a series of ranged arced attacks in quick succession.
♥ Fifth Form: Swaying Love, Wildclaw - The user somersaults backwards through the air creating a long whip-like string of attacks.
♥ Sixth Form: Cat-Legged Winds of Love - The user twirls upside-down and creates multiple extending slashing attacks before retracting it and extending it again, all within a very short amount of time. (* this one has also been called Kitty Paw Love Breeze)
Mitsuri was first trained in Flame Breathing, and is capable of fighting in this style too, although it isn't her strongest or most preferred.
Demon Hunter Training:
In order to become a demon slayer there are a few trials one must undergo, including Final Selection which is basically like an entrance exam. Basically, a prospective slayer needs to remain alive for seven nights inside a demon-infested forest without any outside aid. The training for this in and of itself is usually at least a year, and can include things like combat training, learning breathing techniques or going through obstacle courses. Mitsuri is notable in that she is the only known slayer to have completed Final Selection after 6 months of training (whereas it took the main character 2 years).
Total Concentration Breathing + Total Concentration Constant
Like all high-level slayers, Mitsuri is able to use certain breathing techniques to do things like promote physical recovery or increase her physical strength and agility. She is able to maintain total concentration breathing all throughout the day and even while she's asleep, which increases her natural abilities exponentially. These breathing skills are pretty much the foundation of demon slaying.
In regards to the game, I don't think Mitsuri should have access to her sword and maybe that should be something she can earn back? Despite her whip-like sword being ideal for her, she is capable of using more traditional ones and can use other things in a pinch (like why not bash someone over the head with a steel pipe?). In addition, I also think she could do with less strength than she would have normally as her physical strength is a little inhuman to begin with (ex. tearing off the Demon King's arm with her bare hands). So instead of her muscles being 8 times as dense, for example, it could maybe be something like 2 or 3 times. What I find the most interesting about her strength being nerfed is that she had wished to be without it for so long! It's interesting to see what she would have to do without it, especially since it made certain things exceptionally easy for her (like the aforementioned Final Selection).
SUITABILITY:
Mitsuri is no stranger to death, or violence, or even demons. So I don't think she would have any issues needing to adapt in Jigoku-cho, and she would likely make new connections with those in her faction with relative ease. She is inexperienced with things like drugs or sexual aspects herself though, so any exposure to those kinds of themes would be very new to her (although she's definitely aware of them).
I also think it would be interesting to explore her in these kinds of city/community based RPs because, when all is said and done, Mitsuri was still a secondary/background character all throughout her canon. There was a lot left that she was not able to experience even at the time of her death, and much of her life was devoted to following a structure others set out for her (society pushing marriage, societal expectations of women, devoting herself to being a hashira/slayer). "Mitsuri" in and of herself, therefore, was largely unexplored. It could even be said that much of her character was reactionary, basing her actions on the expectations of the other characters and how valuable they saw her as being. So it would be interesting to explore her character in a completely new environment, where she would need to push forwards in different ways without the constraint of focusing mostly on "demon slaying".
FACTION SUITABILITY:
The Shuten Clan
Mitsuri's greatest attribute is her physical strength, and she's very honest by nature. These qualities would likely make her suited for the Shuten Clan, although I think the suitability would probably end there. I don't think she would enjoy the culture of hard drinking, partying, nor the reliance on brute strength above all else. Those things are a stark contrast to her marked childishness and general personality.
The Tamamo Clan
In some ways, Mitsuri would be suited for the Tamamo Clan. She was ranked as the #1 "easiest to talk to Hashira" and it's been mentioned in canon that her cheery personality/talkativeness bring a sense of normalcy to her battle-hardened peers. In that way she functions a bit as a de-stressor for the people around her. Her hobbies of eating out, cooking, and socializing would also lend to this as it could contribute to "hostess"-like qualities, and she would greatly enjoy being able to lessen someone's stress with food or talking.
Working in a restaurant or as a hostess would be jobs she's well-suited for, but despite her appearance it's very unlikely she would willingly engage in any kind of sex work at all.
The theme of being true to oneself is also one that she has constantly struggled with, as she found it difficult to accept herself for her strength and appetite. She had even gone so far as to hide her hair colour by dying it black, pretending to be weak, and starving herself so as to appear "normal". Learning to value herself here more might be beneficial.
The Sutoku Alliance
Mitsuri is not exactly the most intelligent of the Hashira, and isn't really the bookworm-type. A lot of her skill stems from physical prowess and natural talent, rather than strategy and planning. She would be very ill-suited for any kind of secrecy or espionage, and wouldn't be necessarily the greatest at gathering information or performing investigations. That said, Mitsuri does value knowledge and intelligence! She holds her more intellectual peers in very high regards, and enjoys learning/trying new things. She would absolutely try her best with any task she's given, either way.
The Department of the Enma
Mitsuri absolutely understands the need for order, and would find comfort in following instructions or fulfilling duties -- especially if it means protecting other people. She isn't someone who strays from her obligations or from rules, and has a very firm moral compass. There were also a few times in her canon where she would accept what the Leader asked of them, and would simply accept and stick to it would question or complaint. In a small way, I think it's enjoyable for her to be following this kind of structure as it makes her feel useful to fulfill objectives given to her. This is the department that would be most familiar to her.
SAMPLESI'm currently in the middle of moving IRL so I apologize for the lack of activity. :(
